The Ultimate Winter 2020 Photography Bucket List

It is widely accepted that the holiday season is the most magical time of the year, and it is officially upon us! Between first snows, winter light festivals, and sparkly everything, the entire season is basically one big, beautiful photo op. And to help inspire your photography game (and give your Instagram all of those dreamy, wintery vibes), I’ve compiled a list of 20 of my favorite fun and photo-worthy places to go and things to do this season in what I’m calling The Ultimate Winter Photography Bucket List. So grab your camera and a hot coco (or eggnog if you’re feelin’ frisky), and get to snapping!

1. The First Snow of the Season

There is nothing more magical than the first snow.

2. Breaking Out Your Decorations

Last year, I literally broke out my decorations from storage jail while grinchy Seth wasn’t home. After I put about half of them up, he came home, had a laugh, and we took this “jail-break” inspired photo.

3. Kiss Under the Mistletoe

… or some spare pine needles – use what you’ve got!

4. Choosing the Perfect Christmas Tree

…cue Taylor Swift’s “Christmas Tree Farm!”

6. With Iconic Christmas Trees

We love checking out the People’s Tree in Washington, DC. Click here to check out some more of our favorite trees in the nation’s capitol.

7. All Bundled Up

Don your most festive outerwear, find some pretty lights, and voilà!

8. Decorating Your Tree

…or eating cookies while watching your significant other decorate if you’re like Seth.

9. Strolling Down City Sidewalks

…because even the most average of streets just become so magical during the holidays.

10. Window Shopping

… bonus points if you find the cutest little snow-covered street to do so.

11. With your Favorite Holiday Mug

It is up to you whether or not to disclose what’s inside.

12. Snow Ball Fight!

Set up your tripod and have a little fun!

13. At a Lights Festival

Quintessential Christmas photo right here, ladies and gentleman.

14. Winter Date Night

It is never a bad idea to bring your camera along and snag a photo or two with the cute décor outside of the restaurant you’re headed to!

15. Downtown Decorations

Go exploring around your favorite metro area! If you’re in the DMV – we’ve got you covered with 10 holiday photo spots in Washington, DC!

16. On a Snow-Covered Trail

Hiking is a year-round favorite for us… and snow-covered trails are oh-so-pretty!

17. In Your Christmas Jammies

Hint: It is probably a good idea to buy cute, matching Christmas pjs – so you don’t end up with the “stripes and checkers, and prints – oh my!” vibe that we’ve got going on here!

18. At Your Favorite Museum

Lots of museums go all out with their holiday decorations. Case in point: Washington DC’s National Botanic Garden.

19. Twirling Around Town

Put on a flowy skirt and do your thing!

20. Sneaking Santa’s Cookies

…or stealing some of Santa’s macaroons if you live in the Myers’ house.

I hope these ideas gave you some inspiration for the ‘gram. Tag me (@happilyeveraleah) in your winter photos, I’d love to share in your adventures and repost you on my stories!

With Love, Aleah
