Your Guide to an Epic Adult Snow Day

It’s that time of year once again – Snow Day Season! And many of us on the East Coast are hoping for a snow-covered, pseudo-holiday tomorrow. So with our (fingers-crossed) upcoming snow day in mind, check out our list of the top Adult Snow Day activities – and allow yourself to indulge in the nostalgia and magic of the season!

Note: If you live in Washington, DC like we do, I have included some tips that are specific to the District – but if you’re not a Washingtonian – no worries! These activities can be done just about anywhere!

Play at the Park

Parks offer the perfect venue for Snow Day fun! From pick-up snowball fights, to snowpeople building, to sledding, you can’t go wrong by venturing to your local park.

DC TIP: Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park is a winter wonderland in the snow!

Build a Fort

Like snowball fights, and sledding, fort building is another activity that should not be exclusively for the kids. Whether you want to bundle up and build yourself an ice fort, or create one out of blankets in your PJs, this snow day activity is packed with nostalgia and will provide you with hours of entertainment.

Take a Hike

If you can safely reach a favorite outdoor space on your snow day – do it! Snow hiking offers incredible views (and photos) of nature in all its winter glory. PLUS, you will get to swoon over all of the cute pups frolicking in the snow.

DC TIP: Take a break from your Rock Creek Park hike to take in the beauty of Boulder Bridge.

Indulge in a Home-Cooked Boozy Brunch

This is your bonus day. Your day to eat bacon and pancakes with whipped cream and syrup and have a guilt-free mimosa (or three) on a weekday, before noon – live it up!

Hit the Ice

Outdoor ice skating is such a natural Snow Day activity. It’s the perfect opportunity to glide across a sheet of ice in a real-life snow globe kind of setting!  If you’re reading this and live in Washington, DC like me, I’ve linked some of my favorite local ice skating rinks here.

DC TIP: The Wharf is our favorite of DC’s many outdoor ice skating rinks – it’s usually never crowded

Spearhead a Home Project or DIY

Snow days serve as the ideal time to complete those half-finished DIY or home improvement projects that you have been putting off. As long as your project doesn’t require a trip to the Home Depot, you’re good to go.

Transport Yourself to the Tropics

If you need a break from the cold, but still want to get out of the house, museums provide the perfect solution! Places like the National Botanic Garden can transport you from snowy city to a tropical paradise – at least for a few hours.

DC TIP: The U.S. Botanic Garden is a tropical oasis no matter the time of year

Bake Cookies

Name something better than cozying up in a blanket and sipping hot chocolate while eating warm, fresh-baked cookies after a cold day in the snow. I bet you can’t. So don’t forget to stock up on your favorite cookie ingredients when you make that inevitable last-minute/pre-snow run to Trader Joes.

Experience a New Perspective (& Photograph it!)

A little bit of snow turns everything it touches into a new light source making anything that’s not white pop with color. Try hitting up your favorite local haunts on foot to experience a totally new view.  If you enjoy taking photos, snow is nature’s way of making one gigantic light box – so take full advantage!

A snow-covered Smithsonian Castle

If all else fails…

Netflix & chill.

Wishing you the best Snow Day EVER!
