Spring is upon us once again, and soon our beautiful district will be in full bloom. DC denizens and tourists alike will flock in droves to experience our city’s iconic cherry blossoms and see the blanket of pink petals that engulfs us for a few glorious days once a year.
Among those anxiously awaiting peak bloom are photographers serving couples who are eager to capture themselves posed with the cherry blossoms for the perfect engagement photos. And not so long ago, I was a member of that wide-eyed group of hopefuls.
My then fiance, Seth, and close friend/photographer, Casey, of Casey Albright Photography were just as eager. On the day of the shoot, we planned to head for the Tidal Basin, but it was such a windy day that being right on the water simply wasn’t an option. Alas, hidden in plain sight was our local park which turned out to be a gem for capturing our cherry blossom-filled engagement photos. We evaded the Tidal Basin’s wind and crowds and created a magical shoot at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park, a green oasis nestled between 15th and 16th streets two blocks north of the U St. Corridor.
